“Master Signature Artist” – Mort Solberg
This nationally acclaimed fine artist was recently earned the status of Master Signature Artist of the Society of Animal Artists, a designation that has been attained by only 10 of the current 380 Signature Society artists. He was also winner of the prestigious 2005 Arts in the Parks Award, Mort Solberg was named Abrakadoodle’s first contemporary Artist of Distinction. Through this program, children learn about the styles and techniques of great artists. Mort Solberg’s style begins with an abstraction created with watercolors or acrylic paints. From this abstraction, a realistic painting emerges.
Children learn to start with an abstract idea, and then use their imaginations to create a colorful, realistic painting. Solberg Doodles are always popular because children love the outdoors and enjoy the challenge of combining abstract backgrounds with realistic images inspired by nature. Mort says, “I like to show children that there is no right or wrong way to create art. I show children that cats can be blue and a big splash of color may be the beginnings of a beautiful garden. They just need to be encouraged to use their imaginations.”
